An illness, accident or birth defect can damage part or all of your eye. At Belgium Ocularists, we’ll create and adapt a rigid scleral lens for you, just as we would an ocular prosthesis, that’s placed directly on your eye. Developed by our specialists, this lens has an end result close to reality. As well as being comfortable, it will bring new life to your eye.
All the anatomical elements (sclera (white of the eye), iris (colour of the eye) and blood vessels) are painted by hand with great precision in our laboratory according to a very accurate technique, so they look very similar to those in a real eye.
The team at Belgium Ocularists will take care of you from the design to the fitting of your rigid scleral lens.
All our rigid scleral lenses are guaranteed hypoallergenic and are produced according to the highest technical and hygiene standards.
They are partly supported by your health insurance fund or insurance.
Who are they for?
Atrophy
Rigid scleral lenses are recommended in the case of eye atrophy, whether as a result of illness, an accident or a birth defect. The damaged eye is covered with a rigid scleral lens to restore its aesthetic appearance.
All ages
Atrophies of the eye can occur at any age. We accompany and adapt the youngest children as well as adults.
Belgium Ocularists can take charge of you in order to propose you the best adapted solutions.
Aesthetics
A rigid scleral lens is an aesthetic solution to an unaesthetic eye. The details of your other eye are meticulously painted by hand in our laboratory by a team of professionals.
An appointment at Belgium Ocularists
Advice from professionals
Does your eye appear unaesthetic as a result of illness, an accident or a birth defect? Then make an appointment at one of Belgium Ocularists’ practices. We’re present throughout Belgium and can receive you in French, Dutch or English, because it’s important for us to welcome you in the best possible conditions. An unaesthetic look can have a real impact on self-esteem, so we’re here to listen to you so that we can offer you the best possible solution.
At the first appointment, we’ll take an impression (moulding) of the atrophied eye as well as measurements of the diameter and colour of the iris, the colour of the sclera, etc. After studying and interpreting the impression, we’ll create your custom-made rigid scleral lens out of acrylic resin. Once we’ve made it, we’ll help you to insert it and give you all the necessary advice concerning its maintenance. This type of lens must be taken out every night.
Regular follow-up is necessary to ensure that the fit is still consistent with the atrophied eye. An artificial eye must also be polished on a yearly basis.
