Our ocular prostheses

At Belgium Ocularists, we’re passionate about eyes. We manufacture and adapt every ocular prosthesis to measure. Our ocular prostheses are entirely handmade and as close to reality as possible.

Our ocular prostheses are specially designed for people who have lost an eye as a result of illness, an accident or a malformation. Our prostheses are made of acrylic resin and are designed according to a moulding of your orbital cavity or your atrophied eye for optimum fit and comfort.

All the anatomical elements (sclera (white of the eye), iris (colour of the eye) and blood vessels) are painted by hand with great precision in our laboratory according to a very accurate technique, so that they look very similar to those in a real eye.

We create and manufacture your prosthesis to measure with guaranteed follow-up for fitting, maintenance or emergencies.

All our products are guaranteed hypoallergenic and are produced according to the highest technical and hygiene standards.

Who are they for?

Injury

We intervene either after surgery (enucleation and evisceration), an injury or a birth defect, so that your eyes can look as natural and realistic as possible once again.

All ages

An illness or accident can happen at any age. We accompany both children and adults so that they can be fitted with the most comfortable and aesthetic ocular prosthesis or scleral lens possible.

Aesthetics

Whether we’re providing you with a temporary or permanent prosthesis, we strive to create an eye of absolute precision so that it’s as undetectable as possible. Aesthetics is our keyword to ensure you feel completely comfortable.

An appointment at Belgium Ocularists
Absolute realism

Do you need an ocular prosthesis following an enucleation or evisceration? Then make an appointment with the specialists at Belgium Ocularists. We’re available to welcome you throughout Belgium in French, Dutch or English so that we can listen to your needs and guarantee you the best care.

We’ll accompany you throughout the process. If you’ve just had an operation, your ophthalmologist will ask you to make an appointment (usually 4 to 6 weeks after the operation). At our first appointment, we’ll replace the postoperative conformer with a suitable temporary prosthesis. At the following appointment, we’ll take an impression (moulding) of the orbital cavity as well as measurements of the diameter and colour of the iris, the colour of the sclera, etc. After studying and interpreting the impression, we’ll create your custom-made ocular prosthesis out of acrylic resin. Once we’ve made it, we’ll fit it and give you all the necessary advice for its maintenance.

Regular follow-up is necessary to ensure that the fit is still consistent with the orbital cavity. The artificial eye must also be polished on a yearly basis.
